you don't have to punish yourself because of who you are
you don't have to withhold pleasure because of who you are
you don't have to fear the person you really are

'tops' have trained themselves to enjoy 'topping', because at some emotional level that satisfied their self-view

ditto for 'bottoms'

both are mere characters, created in a long-running play.
