Sunday at the Met with Mr. R.

My friend R was visiting from LA this weekend. He just got a job in Europe and I'm not sure when we will see each other again. We came out at the same time in Belo Horizonte, were inseparable there. He eventually moved to NY and lived with me and X-G for a couple of years before love whisked him away to California. When I was in the hospital he would come, a week at a time, and keep my foot moisturized. I hated him for that.

He came Saturday for a birthday in LI and left Sunday night, which only left us with Sunday morning to hang out. He chose the Met. (I'm still on a very agreeable mood) I was there first, seating on the steps, when he arrived. Sobbing.

I am the person that brought him there the first time.

R loves art and, apparently, loves me too.

I know I love him.

Amor e Sexo.

Music & lyrics by Rita Lee brazilian greatest rocker, loosely translated by me.

Love is a book - Sex is a sport
Sex is choice - Love is luck
Love is thought, theorem
Love is soap-opera - Sex is cinema
Sex is imagination, fantasy
Love is prose - Sex is poetry
Love makes us pathetic
Sex is a jungle of epileptics

Love is christian - Sex is pagan
Love is latifund - Sex is squater
Love is divine - Sex is animal
Love is bossa nova - Sex is carnaval

Love is forever - Sex too
Sexo é do bom - Amor é do bem
Love without sex is friendship
Sex without love is desire
Love is one - Sex is two
Sex before - Love after
Sex comes from others and then leave
Love comes from us and takes its time.

Garden of Eden.

Patience is a virtue...

...I acquired while spending 6 months immobile on a hospital bed and one which has come handy lately.

Bellow 14.

Just opened.

Anyone interested?

Miami Vice: "This was not a job that anyone needed to do, but then again no one could have done it better." (than Michael Mann, the director)

"In “Scoop,” his not especially funny yet oddly appealing new comedy, Woody Allen manages to act his age."

"The family that pops Prozac together stays together, perhaps, but the family that piles into an old Volkswagen bus the color of a banana surely has more entertainment value. That at least seems true of the happily (for us) unhappy relations at the center of the bittersweet comedy of dysfunction “Little Miss Sunshine,” a tale about genuine faith and manufactured glory that unwinds in the American Southwest, but more rightly takes place at the terminus of the American dream, where families are one bad break away from bankruptcy."

Another Gay Movie: "is a rude, rollicking and exceedingly raunchy attempt to turn “American Pie” into “American Quiche."

"Brothers of the Head relates the biography of conjoined twins from the southeast coast of England, named Tom and Barry Howe, who at the age of 18 are sold by their father to a sleazy British impresario. The story is an uncomfortable reminder of the degree to which rock ’n’ roll, for all its vaunted “authenticity,” has always been a traveling circus."

Second chance.

X-S and I had made plans for a night out, cocktails & dinner. Ms. M who was also joining us, suggested 'Room Service' and since I was in a very agreable mood I didn't mention my one really bad experience there. I heard they had finally got their liquor license and, boy, what a difference it made. After my first 'sex on the bathtub' (too many ingredients for me to remember) my opinion about the place had already gone through a radical transformation.

We might have been a tad obnoxiously loud but we were having too much fun. At some point, Ms M called our very demure asian waiter (VDAW) and the following exchange ensued:

Ms. M: Excuse me, could you tell me what's the special ingredient in this dish? It smells like pussy.
VDAW: Oh my God, I'm so sorry, I have to inform the chef.
Ms. M: No, don't get me wrong, I'm LOVING it.
VDAW: Oh, OK. It's fish oil.

I also learned a new version of an old vodoo. It's called sweaty rice. Ms. M is from Trinidad (and Tobago too). She told me that women there seat naked on a pile of rice, cook it and then feed their man so they never leave. You see, in Brazil we make coffee using our (worn) underwear as a filter with the same results. It works!

"While you are away

My heart comes undone
Slowly unravels
In a ball of yarn
The devil collects it
With a grin"

What will Rodrigo Santoro play in Lost's 3rd season?

A Varig pilot!

Via Kibe Loco.

Believe me, it's funny. I actually used to work for Varig when I lived in Brazil but I barely remember it, so far in the past that part of my life is. The airline used to be a source of pride for the country - it was routinely voted one of the best in the world: great food, free drinks, free necessaires. No wonder it's bankrupt.

On the other hand, what's all this comparisons between Santoro and Tom Cruise? I agree with Made in Brazil, y'all wrong: Rodrigo is a much better actor.

Under construction.

Excited about architecture: next door to the Roxy, on 18th Street & West Side Highway, an interesting glass building designed by Frank Gehry is rising to house the future headquarters of IAC/InterActiveCorp.

HO2 Birthday, Fire Island.

Reclaiming your soul.

One of the strongest arguments against using CM is that it steals your soul - CM makes you believe that you could never enjoy life again if you stop using it (The Lost Generation).

It is a strong argument but of little help to those already deep into it.

The point that is begging to be made right now - and that shoul be much more helpful - is that it is possible to recover your soul.

And be able to enjoy dancing again.
And have relationships and sex.
And read, go to dinners and movies.
And perceive beauty.
And fall in love again.

Quick update.

It's official, my priorities are all screwed up: I got a boyfriend before I got a (official) job (still working free-lance) or a (my own) place to live (still living with my good friend, Mr. DF). So much for planning.
Sooner or later, this happens to everyone
To everyone

You can live your life lonely
Heavy as stone
Live your life learning
And working alone
Say this is all you want
But I dont believe that its true

“American Idol” World Court

This week's Shouts and Murmurs by the always funny Paul Rudnick.

"RYAN SEACREST: Welcome, everyone. I’m your host, Ryan Seacrest. Thanks to the overwhelming success of “American Idol,” our panel of judges has been asked, by the international community, to rule on issues affecting us all. So let’s get started: (...) what about global warming?

RANDY: Yo, dawg, when you say “global warming” do you mean, like, sitting by the fire with your lady and getting down to a spicy slow jam by my man Barry White?

PAULA: Oh, oh, or do you mean, like, actually warming the globe? Like toasting one? Wouldn’t it melt?

SIMON: He means, you idiots, that because of human greed we’re in very real danger of ending life as we know it.

PAULA: But I love being warm! We warm the world with talent! Isn’t that what the globe needs? What if we just took all of the most wonderful singers from our show, even that girl whose dad was in prison, and sent them to the North Pole? Would that help?

SIMON: Or what if, for one week, Paula wasn’t allowed to use any selftanning products?

PAULA: I hate you! I hate you! You make me just want to hate you!"

My home is where the heart is.

I'll be there for you.

"Of all the species of human relationships, friendships might be the most peculiar. Friends are not bound to us by law or blood. We don't leave them huge sums in our wills. Yet we expect loyalty and lasting affection from them, and they from us, even as our lives become complicated by marriage, kids, humiliating failures, intimidating successes, rises and slips in status, surprises and dips in luck, illnesses, blessings, loss."

'Friendship: An Exposé'

"How they handle our vulnerabilities, secrets and deepest fears is precisely what gives our friends such remarkable power, in ways both magnificent and terrifying."

Hello, stallion!

pic forwarded to me by mr. km

Great people of Pennsylvania:

Let him be gone!
Republican Sen. Rick Santorum, one of the most vulnerable incumbents facing re-election this November, said Friday he has $9.5 million in cash for the remaining months of the campaign. (...) The conservative Santorum has trailed Casey by double digits in polls in a state that went for Democrats Al Gore in 2000 and John Kerry in 2004. ABC News
I'm with Dan Savage when it comes to Santorum

Remember back in August, 2004 when I was hired to dress up as Benjamin Franklin at a party for Rick Santorum. I wanted to die. Which I almost did a few days later. Oh, c'mon, lighten up. Cuz I have.

Well, the greatest political commentator of this century, Jon Stewart, tests your Rick Santorum knowledge.

The Dog Days of Summer.

Can it get any hotter?

Last night I had a most unpleasant dinner with 'the lesbians', but not because of them - we always have fun together. We were set on trying out this new thai restaurant on 8th, Room Service (I know, I still don't get it either). Neither the lack of liquor license nor the abscence of air conditioning deterred us. Big mistake. While the service was attentive and the food might have been good, it was a lose-lose situation from the beggining.

53rd & Lexington.

Obssesive attention to detail.

Another added bonus of using crystal meth. So many things get acomplished in your life. So many kitchens have been re-modeled, so many closets re-arranged. On the downside...
Crack users and heroin users are so disorganized and get in these frantic binges, they’re not going to sit still and do anything in an organized way for very long,” Dr. Rawson said.Meth users, on the other hand, that’s all they have, is time. The drug stimulates the part of the brain that perseverates on things. So you get people perseverating on things, and if you sit down at a computer terminal you can go for hours and hours.

To be human is to follow the herd.

"It’s the same for books and popular music: the more copies a thriller or a pop song sells, the more likely you are to pick it up to see what all the fuss is about. Even in the online era, to be human is to follow the herd. Far from undermining this “network effect,” the Internet strengthens it by providing instant communication and feedback. In a recent online study conducted by researchers at Columbia, participants were allowed to download free songs from a list of unsigned bands. When they were informed about the preferences of their peers, the popular songs got more popular—and the unpopular songs got more unpopular."

From a very interesting article on the future of the music business in The New Yorker.

The future's so bright I need a new pair of aviators #2.

So, as I was saying, I just had to get a new pair of aviators.

Life is not waiting for me to catch up with it. I had a list of priorities: #2 should not happen before #1, that's the way it's planned out. I was actually not supposed to have any fun until about after #6 was accomplished. I firmly believe(d) in the Maslow's pyramid I've created for myself. Too cryptic? Well, for now it has too be. I don't want to spoil anything.

In the meantime, I've added a new feature to "this here website thingy" as Eric likes to say: it's on the right, I'm calling it 'miniblog' for lack of a better name. Any suggestions?

Brazil is out of the world cup.

France 1 - Brazil 0

Revolution ensues... Statues of Brazilian idols are coming down, like it happened in Eastern Europe in the recent past.

Hopefully, Brazilian minds are now free from that opiate and will occupy themselves with how fucked up the government is. Will that affect the Presidential election outcome? Probably not.

Superman Returns...

and it's all about real estate. I was a little disappointed.

"This time Luthor finds Superman's crystallized second home, burgles Kryptonian continent rendering technology and sets out to use it to literally corner the world real estate market, especially beach front property."
